Beyond traditions and civilization

Any breakthrough in great inventions and discoveries is a breakaway from the tradition.

We may be proud that while all other great ancient civilizations and their traditions have died away, our great ancient civilization and traditions are fully alive in continuity, but it may be a reason for our not excelling today in science and technology. We are not ready to shake off our bondage of past. We are strongly glued down to our ancient knowledge and still consider the Vedas as the ultimate source of all knowledge. We must rise above 'gobar and go-mutra'.

We should not blunt the scientific temperament and habit of making critical enquiries in our children by giving commandments like :

"Not even a blade of grass can move without the will of God, and so do not raise doubts on the events of the nature or try to know the reasons behind them, accept them as God's will.''

''Do not raise questions on the wisdom of elder people, it is not allowed in our civilization and tradition. Sanskari people do not do it."

This is not in the interest of any forward looking nation or society. So, without any consideration of our misplaced Sanskar and without any ego of being elder, being more intelligent or being wiser, let the inquisitiveness of the children flourish . Give them full freedom and respect to them to ask questions without any hesitations, even if they are uncomfortable or challenge our knowledge and wisdom. With change of time, knowledge, perception, outlook - every thing is changing so fast that we cannot live only with our past.
